Network Rail is investing more than £600,000 in track improvements in the Dundee area.  Essential engineering work will take place at Kinnaber, Inverkeillor, Lunan, Dock Street and St Michaels.  The programme of work will be done in stages at weekends between Sunday 30 January and Sunday 27 February. Work will take place at Kinnaber on Sunday 30 January and at Inverkeillor on Sunday 6 February. Work at Lunan and Dock Street tunnel will be carried out on Sunday 13 February.  The work at St Michaels is scheduled to take place on Sundays 20 and 27 February. Ron McAulay, Network Rail, Route Director, Scotland said:  "We are committed to improving the rail infrastructure in Scotland and this work will result in smoother, quieter and more reliable journeys for rail passengers in the Dundee area.  By doing this work at weekends, we will reduce disruption for passengers." This important engineering work will involve the renewal of over 1,500 yards of rail as well as new ballast and the refurbishment of trackside drainage systems. Edinburgh - Aberdeen and Glasgow - Aberdeen services will start and terminate at Dundee. The replacement bus service will call at Carnoustie, Arbroath, Montrose, Stonehaven and Portlethen. Passengers should note that buses from Aberdeen Station will depart approximately sixty minutes earlier than the advertised train times, in order to maintain connection times with trains at Dundee. About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
