£300,000 INVESTED TO REPAIR RAIL BRIDGE AT GOSS MOOR

Network Rail are undertaking essential repair works to the railway bridge at Goss Moor. This follows 31 strikes to the bridge by high-sided vehicles in the last three years. Over the next two weekends (21 – 23 November and 28 – 30 November, Friday 20.00 – Sunday 14.00) the Newquay to Par railway line will be shut and a replacement bus service will be in operation. The essential safety works will also mean that the A30 will be closed at this location with Highways Agency diversions in operation. During the rail and road closures, the bridge deck will be temporarily propped up and sections of damaged steel work removed. New steel plates will then be installed and bolted to the bridge. Following the repair works, the bridge will remain at the original height and motorists are reminded to take note of comprehensive warning signs regarding the bridge height. In addition to the normal highways equipment and signage, the bridge also has additional protection in the form of detection equipment that alerts drivers of high vehicles to the bridge ahead and tells them to divert.
