Passengers are able to travel by train between Weymouth and Wareham this morning following over-running track renewal work caused by the failure of an engineering train.

New research from Network Rail reveals a quarter¹ of Anglia residents think crossing a motorway on foot is more dangerous than crossing the railway on foot, despite the fact that trains cannot swerve out of the way. This lack of awareness is causing more people to take risks, with only 33% identifying that crossing when barriers are down and no train is coming is a risk and only 21% recognising that crossing when the lights are flashing is a risk.

New research from Network Rail reveals only a third (36 per cent) of 18 – 24 year olds believe going on the railway track is extremely dangerous¹, resulting in young adults risking their lives when crossing the railway. Almost a quarter (22 per cent) of 18 – 24 year olds admit that if they were in a rush, they would ignore warning lights and try to cross the railway at a level crossing. 

Network Rail has submitted a planning application for creating step-free access between platforms six and nine at Stirling station.
