Network Rail and Transport for Wales have been working together for over a year to keep passengers and customers moving this autumn.

Network Rail, West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leeds City Council have today (Wednesday, 9 October) celebrated the results of major investment at Leeds station, which has vastly improved the area for people arriving in the city and announced that more upgrades are to come.

There is some ‘re-leaf’ for passengers, as trains designed to blast leaves off the line are just one of a number of measures to keep passengers moving this autumn.

Passengers are being advised to plan their journeys later this month when Network Rail continues its major improvement of the Cumbrian Coast line.

• Millions of trees grow along the railway, dropping thousands of tonnes of leaves onto the tracks every autumn
• When trains pass over these leaves, the heat and weight of the trains bake them into a thin, slippery layer on the rail which is the railway’s equivalent of black ice
• Throughout the autumn and winter, our teams will work through the night to clear the tracks and keep them safe for trains

Jacky Duffin Wood level crossing in Carlton, North Yorkshire, is the first in the Britain to link two safety measures together, following a £30,000 investment.

More than 200 residents took the chance to take a behind-the-scenes peek at the workings of Helpston signal box, after the signallers there organised a number of open days to promote level crossing safety.
