Work is about to begin on a new staff accommodation block at Ayr station in the first phase of a programme that will unlock significant improvements for passengers and the operation of the station.

Network Rail has announced that passenger services between Scunthorpe and Doncaster will resume tomorrow after repair work following a landslip has completed earlier than planned.

• Passengers will benefit from a more reliable railway with 400 metres of new track laid at Gillingham
• New roof and improvements at Sherborne station, ahead of new cycle racks due to be installed shortly

Network Rail has identified the preferred location of the proposed new railway station for Cambridge South. The chosen location corresponds with Option 1 presented to the public earlier this year and follows a review of engineering and design information together with the results of public consultation.

A helicopter has been used to repair a historic Victorian railway tunnel that takes passenger trains between Clitheroe and Manchester through a hillside in Darwen, Lancashire.

Engineers are continuing to strengthen a railway slope close to St Catherine’s tunnel in Guildford following a landslip last December, with work expected to last until November 2020.
