Rail passengers in South Wales are benefitting this week from electric services for the first-time following Network Rail’s successful completion of electrification of the railway between Cardiff Central and London Paddington.

Network Rail is reminding passengers that there will be no trains in or out of King’s Cross station for two weekends, as major work takes place as part of the £1.2billion East Coast Upgrade. There are also six further weekends where there will be a reduced service.

People needing step-free access at Stockport station are being urged to plan their journeys this week while specialist electrical repairs are made to a broken-down lift.

Ellie Burrows has joined Network Rail this week as route director for Anglia. The Anglia route is one of four new routes that make up Network Rail’s Eastern region and covers Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and parts of Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Greater London.  The move to routes and regions is part of Network Rail’s nationwide programme “Putting Passengers First” launched in June 2019.

Passengers using the railway between Barrow-in-Furness and Lancaster will soon have more reliable journeys.

Trains will resume running between Ewell West and Epsom on Monday, 6 January, following a landslip which has closed the line for three weeks.
