Network Rail engineers will be rebuilding a crucial section of West Sussex’s railway next year, including a nine day period when there will be no trains at all through Horsham.

Work is under way to improve passenger and freight journeys over the world-renowned Ribblehead viaduct.

Network Rail and train operators on the East Coast Main Line are urging passengers not to travel to or from London on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November, and for a six-day period over Christmas, as essential work continues on the East Coast Upgrade.

• Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November – there will be no services to or from London King’s Cross, Moorgate or to or from St Pancras International via Finsbury Park
• Reduced service in and out of London King’s Cross either side of this main weekend; on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November, and on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November

Multi-million pound bridge upgrades are taking place on the Settle to Carlisle line in North Yorkshire from this weekend to make the railway more reliable for passengers and freight.

Passengers in the Calder Valley are being urged to check before they travel from this weekend when essential maintenance starts on an 180-year-old viaduct designed by railway pioneer George Stephenson.

Network Rail is upgrading Canterbury East station with new lifts and a new footbridge, providing step free access at Canterbury East for the first time. Tactiles will also be installed along both platforms to improve use for passengers with visual impairment.

Graffiti on the railway is being targeted across the West Midlands and Chilterns area to improve its appearance for passengers and people who live and work nearby.
