Fans of the famous Flying Scotsman are being urged to stay off the tracks and enjoy a safe day out when the locomotive tours the Surrey Hills this week.

Following a recent series of illegal trespass incidents across the country, Network Rail and British Transport Police are warning rail enthusiasts to keep off the railway this week when the iconic steam locomotive Flying Scotsman visits Surrey, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

Network Rail today warned drivers in Lancashire, Cumbria and on Merseyside they can now be caught on camera if they ignore red lights at level crossings.

Network Rail has today, (Wednesday, 29 May) announced when Bromham Road bridge in Bedfordshire will fully close to vehicles as work continues as part of the Midland Main Line Upgrade.

Local residents and rail passengers are invited to four public drop-in events in June to find out more about Network Rail’s proposals to upgrade Norwood Junction station.

Work is now underway on a new £10.55 million railway station which is expected to bring an economic boost to east Durham.

Network Rail engineers have today (Tuesday, 28 May) started a significant stage of work to the railway line in Market Harborough as part of the Midland Main Line Upgrade, which will mean changes to train services for passengers using the route. 

Train services on the West Coast main line between Euston and Carlisle resumed as normal today after major engineering work over the late May bank holiday weekend.
