Passengers will soon benefit from step-free access at Plumstead station as Network Rail starts work on two new lifts.

The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) has today revealed its strategy to improve the lives of millions of people in the North by:

• Slashing railway carbon emissions, equivalent to taking 6 million cars off the road for an entire year

• Creating and safeguarding thousands of jobs for local people and providing tens of thousands of opportunities for new entrants to the industry and young people
• Delivering more than £4bn in social value and a further £4bn in wellbeing

Project to make the railway safer and more reliable for passengers finishes.

Crucial changes to three level crossings in Hexham will take effect from Friday 12 May, improving rail safety in the town. 

Network Rail have teamed up with Leeds United and rail industry partners to teach local schoolchildren about rail safety in a week-long event at Leeds City Station.
