The railway reopened as planned this morning (Monday 30 October) following a nine-day closure of the line during which Network Rail’s team of engineers completed vital reliability upgrades to parts of the busy commuter line between London Waterloo and Portsmouth.

Network Rail is urging passengers travelling between London and the East Midlands in November and December to check their journey before they travel as major engineering work means journeys will be disrupted on weekends throughout the months.

Passengers are advised to factor in extra time for their journeys if they need a step-free way to change platforms while essential work to repair a damaged lift at Stoke-on-Trent station takes place.

Customers are being reminded to check before they travel as the railway between Guildford and Gatwick Airport will be closed from Saturday 11 to Friday 17 November.

Major engineering works are set to commence over the next two weekends as improvements are brought to the power supply between Leeds and Neville Hill, as well as track upgrades at Church Fenton.

Work by Network Rail to install a new lift and staircase at Maidenhead station in Berkshire is due to get under way next month. 

Network Rail is advising Southeastern and London Overground passengers of changes to services and to plan ahead if travelling over Christmas due to a major programme of track and signalling upgrades in south London.

Scotland’s two busiest stations, Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central, are being upgraded with new high-definition customer information screens.
