Passengers using Birmingham New Street are now just two days away from seeing the first half of their new station as the Network Rail and Mace project team make final preparations for the half-time switchover on Sunday 28 April.

The switchover will see the first major changes at New Street in over 40 years and mark a major milestone in the redevelopment of the station, which started in 2010.

The first step towards a new map for the future of the railway in London and the south east of England has been taken today with the launch of a new study by Network Rail.

Graduates are employed for three, six-month placements: one at Network Rail and two at either a passenger or freight operator or another company within the rail sector to gain a broad range of experience.

Work on the West Coast Main Line will be carried out this summer to increase the speed that trains can travel. Four major rail junctions will also be replaced and enhanced. The work will improve the reliability of the infrastructure and the punctuality of train services on Britain’s busiest mixed-use railway line.

Network Rail has started work to construct a new public footpath at Robinswood in Gloucester – including a raised walkway over an active badger sett.

Anyone interested in walking, caving, potholing, photography, nature - and of course, the railway - now has brand new self catering accommodation in which to base themselves in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
