The first battery-powered train to run on Britain’s rail network in more than half a century carries its first passengers this week. This marks an important milestone in the project to demonstrate the viability of an eco-friendly battery-powered train for the twenty-first century.

On 27 December thousands of passengers using King's Cross and Paddington services, many of whom were travelling home after visiting friends and family, suffered severe delays and disruption. Network Rail launched an immediate investigation into what went wrong and today publishes its findings.

Local residents and other users of Furze Platt level crossing will be learning to stay safe on the railway this week during a campaign organised by Network Rail, British Transport Police (BTP) and First Great Western. A key element of the campaign will be to inform the public that those who misuse the crossing could face prosecution.

Residents are being invited to a drop-in session to find out more about a project to replace an ageing railway bridge in the Vale of Glamorgan with a larger and improved structure, which will help improve traffic flow.

Network Rail engineers will replace part of the track to make journeys more reliable on the route between York, Church Fenton and Leeds.

Passengers who travel to London Bridge on Southeastern’s Charing Cross trains will have to take different routes to the station from this Monday as the next stage of the massive station rebuilding takes shape.

Due to the severe weather conditions forecast for Friday (January 9) a limited number of train services will be withdrawn from start of service tomorrow as a safety precaution.
