Passengers are being advised to check before they travel this bank holiday weekend as long-term improvements being made to the railway near Stafford will cause short-term changes to normal services.

Train services between Bolton and Blackburn have returned following the completion of a £14million package of improvement work on the Clitheroe to Manchester route.

Network Rail chief executive Mark Carne visited Northamptonshire on Monday (August 24) to see the investment that is being made in the region to deliver a more reliable service for passengers. 

Passengers can get a unique glimpse inside the redeveloped New Street station thanks to a new exhibition and 3D rollercoaster-style fly-through.

Network Rail will be holding a drop in session on Monday September 7 to information local people about the upcoming project to carry out essential maintenance to the River Stour and River Avon viaducts.

An 80-strong group of rail industry professionals, more used to bogies than bicycles, turned to a different mode of transport for a four-day (from 14 – 17 August) gruelling cycle ride to raise funds for charity. Covering nearly 300 miles, from Germany to the UK, the ride celebrated the successful project partnership that has led to the delivery of the first new Class 700 train set to run on the Thameslink routes.

Residents will have the opportunity to find out more about the proposed new stepped footbridge at Wool at a drop-in session on Tuesday  September 15 at the D’Urberville Centre & Village Hall in Wareham.

New proposals have been set out by Network Rail that would significantly reduce lorry movements in Shenfield and Brentwood town centres as a result of the works to improve the railway for the Crossrail programme.
