Engineers will be working around-the-clock on Scotland’s Railway this Christmas to deliver over £20m of key infrastructure upgrades.

Train passengers were travelling today on near normal services between Culgaith and Carlisle after Network Rail’s orange army completed storm damage repairs.

Passengers are benefiting from the return of a normal timetable on the West Coast main line after Network Rail fully reopened the section which was badly damaged by flooding north of Carlisle

While much of Britain is tucking into its Christmas dinner, Network Rail’s orange army will be out in force on the West Coast main line at Weedon - near Northampton - to improve the reliability of the railway through the area.

Network Rail and the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) have launched a Christmas campaign reminding people to take extra care in stations to reduce festive falls and “Lend a Helping Hand” to each other, as new figures reveal that the average number of “slips, trips and fall” incidents is 20% higher in the month of December than any other month.

Cheshire’s most iconic railway bridges and viaducts are being revitalised thanks to a £17m investment by Network Rail. The purpose of the work is to make the railway safer and more reliable for passengers, motorists, pedestrians and canal users across the county.
