Liverpool City Region (LCR) train passengers are to benefit from £340m of rail improvements over the next three years.

The 130-year-old Severn Tunnel will close for six weeks from mid-September to upgrade it in preparation for a fleet of brand new electric trains which will result in more seats and faster, more reliable journeys for passengers.

Transport Minister Derek Mackay visited Glasgow Queen Street station today to see final preparations being made ahead of the 20 week closure of the station’s high-level tunnel, which begins this Sunday (March 20).
