<p>Electrification presents a huge opportunity for the industry, for those who use the railway and for the country as a whole. Our analysis shows the long-term benefits of electrifying key parts of the network, in terms of both reducing its ongoing cost to the country and improving its environmental performance, are significant.</p><p align="left">As with each RUS, this has been developed with the full input of the rest of the rail industry including train and freight operators, as well as government and passenger representatives. It underwent a 60-day public consultation.</p>
