Reading station area renewals programme

The Reading Station Area Renewal is a £895m package of works which will transform Reading from one of the worst bottlenecks on the network to a modern, streamlined station which serves passengers and freight across Britain.  The new station building, with its five new platforms and four extended platforms, was opened in July 2014 by Her Majesty The Queen, while the new train care depot was completed in 2013.  One of the final stages of the works involves the creation of a flyover to the west of the station to allow freight and passenger services to access the southwest lines to Newbury and beyond without delaying main line services.
