YOUNG FOOTBALLERS KICK START NO MESSIN’! TOURNAMENT

Region & Route:
Young people from schools across Hull will be putting their football skills to the test at Network Rail’s No Messin’! football tournament on Wednesday 19 October.  The six-a-side competition will be held on the Astroturf pitch at Kingston Communications Stadium when these youngsters will have the opportunity to show off their skills.  Teams will compete in two groups in a ‘round robin’ competition.  The winning team from each group will go head to head in the final. The No Messin’! campaign is aimed at nine to 16 year olds and is stylised to fit into today’s popular culture.  Rather than telling children what not to do it aims to show them alternative activities to messing about on the railway. Dyan Crowther, Route Director said: “School holidays are a prime time for children to try messing about on the railway.  The long days can lead to boredom and often when children are caught on the railway lines they say it is because there is nothing better to do.  No Messin’! aims to show them there are alternatives, such as football which are fun and safe to do.” The winning team will be presented with the inaugural No Messin’! trophy.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
