WORK STARTS AT COTON LANE BRIDGE
- Region & Route:
A new bridge over the West Coast Main Line is to be built at Coton Lane. Work will start on 15 May. This is part of the Trent Valley Four Tracking project (TV4), a key part of the upgrade of the West Coast Main Line, allowing the number of tracks to double from two to four. To ensure disruption is kept to a minimum, Network Rail is working closely with Staffordshire County Council’s highways department to implement a traffic management system. To allow the work to be carried out safely, be traffic will be managed in a single lane. This scheme is planned to start on 12 May and last until summer 2006. Drivers are advised to plan ahead as delays may be possible. The overall work at Coton Lane is scheduled to finish by late 2007 when the road will be realigned onto the new bridge and the existing bridge will be demolished. Senior Programme Manager for TV4, Keith Riley, said: “We are committed to keeping disruption to an absolute minimum and are making every effort to carry out this major work without closing the bridge to traffic, but I would advise people to plan ahead for their journeys.”

About Network Rail
We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.
Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
