SPORTS MAD THEA KNOWS THERE IS NO MESSIN ON THE RAILWAY

Region & Route:
Thea Wilson, a sports mad 14 year old pupil at Hall Cross school, is celebrating after she came runner up in a national health and safety quiz on Network Rail’s No Messin’ website. The website was launched in March as part of the No Messin’ campaign.  The campaign is aimed at nine – 16 year olds and is stylised to fit into today’s popular culture.  Rather than telling children what not to do, the campaign suggests alternative activities to messing around on the railway tracks. Thea was presented with her prize by Doncaster ladies first team coach Alan Stoves. Dyan Crowther, Route Director, Network Rail said: “We are delighted Thea has come runner up in the No Messin’ quiz.  She knows the rules to keeping herself safe and healthy and that is really important for young people today.  “Every year children are killed and injured on our railways.  Each one is a tragic story of ignoring the rules for staying safe and staying alive.” Philippa Wilson, Thea’s mum, added: “Thea is really pleased to have won a prize.  She really enjoys sports especially swimming and hockey so the activities No Messin’ promotes fit in well with her lifestyle.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
