South Kenton power line repairs affect Euston services: check before you travel

Passengers were urged today to check before they travel after overnight repairs to damaged electric wires outside London Euston ran into unforeseen problems.

Engineers on their second night of repairs at South Kenton discovered more extensive damage than was initially visible.

This led to delays to their completion deadline of 6am today (Tues).

Until the overhead lines at this location are fully fixed, train services will continue to be subject to delays and cancellation.

James Dean, route director for the West Coast Mainline South route, said: “I am really sorry to all passengers affected by the lengthy repair work at South Kenton.

“We currently have five of the six lines open and are working as fast as we can to reopen the sixth.

“In the mean time our advice to passengers is to check before you travel with your train operator or National Rail Enquiries for the very latest information.”

On Saturday 1,000 metres of overhead electric wires were brought down at South Kenton.

Work was also undertaken on Sunday night into Monday to try and repair the extensive damage.,

Work resumed last night and had been planned to finish at 6am today (Tues).
