SALFORD REGENERATION UNDERNEATH THE ARCHES

Region & Route:
The regeneration of Salford is receiving a £2.7m boost as Network Rail completes a modern refurbishment of eight arches on Chapel Street. Chapel Walks is the latest development to be completed as part of the ongoing regeneration that has seen the arrival of the new 5 Star Lowry Hotel, Chapel Wharf and The Edge. John Pike, Director Commercial Property, said: “Network Rail is proud to play a role in the massive regeneration of Salford. With the Chapel Walks site we saw an opportunity to upgrade these properties. It had previously been used for car parking and was not reaching its potential. Now the units could become offices, showrooms, restaurants or bars.” The arches provide contemporary, spacious accommodation with excellent visibility for leisure, retail and offices ranging from 2647 sq feet to 4793 sq feet. Features include;
  • Full height glass frontage
  • Kitchen and toilet facilities
  • Electronic roller shutters
  • Ground floor and intermediate levels
  • Suspended ceilings and feature lighting
  • Intruder alarms
  • On site visitor parking
  In addition, two of the units have wider front doors to accommodate showrooms that may need wider access.  Four of the units also have the ability to interlink for those requiring larger space. Arctic Spas, a North West Retail Company will be the first business to put its stamp on Chapel Walks before the end of the month, with a second unit already under offer for offices.  Other interests currently being progressed include offices for architects and employment agencies, as well as restaurants and various types of showroom.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
