Railway manager helps organise lock-down give-away of 1,000 Easter eggs

The railway has teamed up with the fire brigade to carry out a huge Easter egg give away for children in Cumbria.

Local operations manager Chris Williamson has been delivering food parcels and donated ready meals to vulnerable and isolated members in the Copeland area during the coronavirus crisis.

During the Easter bank holiday weekend, Morrisons supermarket donated 1000 Easter eggs to the Cleator Moor Covid Support Group to give to children stuck inside over the Easter weekend.

Working with the Copeland Community Resilience Group, Chris called on the fire brigade to help collect and distribute the hundreds of eggs, bringing smiles to faces across his local area.

Chris Williamson, local operations manager at Network Rail, said: “During these difficult times we wanted to do what we could to help out. It was great seeing kids in their gardens with smiles on their faces. They loved seeing the fire engines too.

“I’ll keep on helping my local community as much as I can during the coronavirus pandemic. I’ve got my Network Rail van so I can fit plenty of donations in the back to keep making deliveries.”

Cumbrian Fire and Rescue crews from Whitehaven and Frizington fire stations joined in with the efforts to deliver the chocolate treats.

The giveaway is in addition to Chris and his wife Emma volunteering with the Copeland Community Resilience group set up in response to the Covid-19 outbreak.
