Date:                           30 January 2005 Time:                          9.30 am Location:                    Rawmarsh St Joseph’s playing fields, Back Lane, Rawmarsh. Event:                         Rawmarsh St Joseph’s J.F.C will be taking to the pitch in their new kit sponsored by Network Rail Media contact:          Carolyn Watson, 01904 522825        Rawmarsh Juniors FC will be the best-dressed team on the pitch thanks to sponsorship from Network Rail. Dyan Crowther, Route Director, Network Rail, said: “Every year children are killed and injured on the railway, and Rotherham is a ‘hotspot’ area for trespassing.  “Research shows that children may often think about going onto the railway when they are bored, perhaps after school, weekends or holidays.  The football club offers activities for youngsters at these times, teaching them the skills of football and team work – and helping to keep them on the right side of the railway tracks.”    Steve Shaw, Rawmarsh St Joseph’s added: “We have been part of the community for 34 years now with teams ranging from under 8’s to under 18’s age levels and a kids club to cater for under 7’s. The cost of financing all of our activities is immense and without the clubs dedicated volunteers and the continued sponsorship from companies such as Network Rail Junior football clubs such as ours would struggle to continue”.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
