Passenger travel update between Rochdale and Manchester Victoria
- Region & Route:
- North West & Central
Passengers are being urged to plan their journeys in advance ahead of vital engineering work taking place between Rochdale and Manchester Victoria later this month.
Engineering teams will be completing important work on signalling equipment in the Monsall area between Monday 29 June and Friday 3 July.
It comes ahead of the construction of a new turnback on the railway outside of Manchester Victoria, which will give train operators more flexibility and free up space for trains at the station.
During the work, replacement buses will run between Rochdale and Manchester Victoria.
There will also be amended services to both destinations from a number of other stations.
Francesca Cotgreave, Network Rail sponsor, said: “Creating a new turnback on the approach to Manchester Victoria will provide more options for train operators to give passengers the best possible service and reduce congestion in the area.
“We appreciate that there is never an ideal time to close the railway but we have worked closely with our partners to reduce disruption to passengers and keep people moving as much as possible. Please check with your train operator or on the National Rail Enquiries website for the latest details.”
Stuart Taylor, Northern’s Director of Service Delivery in Greater Manchester, said: “We’re advising customers to check before they travel as there will be some disruption while these essential engineering works are taking place.
“Rail replacement buses will run between Rochdale and Manchester Victoria and a number of other services will be amended to run at different times. We will be working hard to ensure our customers can get where they need to go.”
Andrew McClements, customer experience & transformation director for TransPennine Express said: “Customers are encouraged to check before they travel during this period, as some services will be amended while this essential engineering work takes place.
“The latest travel information can be found on the TPE website tpexpress.co.uk/travel-updates or through National Rail Enquiries.”

About Network Rail
We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.
Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
