NO MESSIN'! AT THE NATIONAL RAILWAY MUSEUM

Region & Route:
Visitors to the free 'Cab-it' weekend at the National Railway Museum will be given the rail safety message while enjoying a great day out on 17 and 18 March. The museum is opening a number of train cabs in the museum to visitors and is organising a range of visiting diesel locomotives both static and in service. Network Rail's No Messin'! team will be at the event, giving the safety message to under 18s. There will also be information about Network Rail's Don't Run the Risk campaign which highlights the dangers of misusing level crossings. Representatives from the British Transport Police will also be on hand. Dyan Crowther, Route Director for Network Rail said: "Rail safety is our top priority. Although deaths at level crossings in the UK are low by international standards, crossing misuse now represents the largest single risk of train accident on the railway. Similarly we know that railway lines are attractive to young people who feel they have nowhere else to go. The No Messin'! campaign aims to introduce them to healthy and interesting activities which will keep them away from the tracks. "Through events like these, and our railway crime education work, we hope to remind people that the railway is safe - as long as it's not abused."

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
