NEW FOOTBRIDGE FOR KINGS SUTTON STATION

Region & Route:

Passengers are set to benefit as Network Rail invests £700,000 in a new footbridge across the railway at Kings Sutton station. In recent years there has been an increase in the number of train services travelling through the station. The new bridge will replace the foot crossing currently used by passengers to reach the north bound platform. Peter Leppard, Area General Manager for West Midlands and the Chilterns, said: “The new bridge will be an impressive addition to Kings Sutton station and shows our commitment to investing in the Chiltern line. We have worked closely with Chiltern Railways and shared our plans with residents and the local authority to ensure we minimise disruption to rail passengers and the village while work is carried out.” Chiltern Railways has worked alongside Network Rail to ensure that disruption to rail services is minimal throughout the project. Wherever possible, major works involving access to the railway line will be carried out at weekends. David Whitley, Marketing Manager at Chiltern Railways, added: “We are pleased that the work on the new footbridge at Kings Sutton station has been given the go ahead and look forward to its completion. It will give passengers a much easier route to and from the northbound platform.” Work on the project starts on 13 March and will take several months. A site compound will be built in the station car park with temporary parking provided for rail passengers. Heavy vehicles will be used to transport equipment, materials and the temporary compound buildings to the site. The new bridge will be lifted into place in April with the project due to be completed by the end of May.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
