NEW CUSTOMER INFO SCREENS FOR BLACKPOOL NORTH STATION

Region & Route:

Blackpool North has become the latest station in the North West to be fitted with new customer information screens.  They have been installed on platforms and in waiting rooms as part of a £6.6 million scheme jointly funded by Network Rail and the Department for Transport. In total, 24 stations on the London North Western route will have the new screens by early 2007.  Route Director, Peter Strachan, said: “We are delighted to provide the passengers who use the station with the latest information technology.  Communications systems have changed dramatically since the old style screens were introduced more than 20 years ago.” Kathryn O'Brien, Acting Area Director, Northern said: "The new customer information screens will improve the experience for passengers using Blackpool North station. The new screens use the latest display technology, a mixture of orange LED displays in strong sunlight areas and flat screens in waiting rooms. Both meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act because they are clearer to read and have large characters.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
