Region & Route:
| North West & Central

The work – part of Network Rail’s £340 million investment in the railway in the Liverpool City Region will complete the installation of a fourth track which will allow faster trains to overtake local stopping services.

The final phase of work will begin in October when week day and some weekend work to the railway will be undertaken.

At the event, which takes place on Thursday 29 September between 4pm and 7pm at The Venue, Civic Way, Poplar Bank, Huyton,  L36 9GD, Network Rail staff will be on hand to explain why when this work is due to take place and how it will impact local people, especially those living near to the railway line.

Ana Bradley Pastor, Huyton Scheme Project Manager said: “This is the first step in the final phase of works to bring into use the fourth track at Huyton that is part of a £340 million investment in the railway of the Liverpool City Region.

“When the work is completed in 2017 connectivity between Liverpool and the east will be greatly improved, which will enable faster journeys between Liverpool and Scotland, Manchester and Leeds.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
