NETWORK RAIL INVESTS £950K IN A BETTER RAILWAY FOR KENILWORTH PASSENGERS

Region & Route:

Network Rail is spending £950,000 on improving the railway in the Kenilworth area over the coming weeks. The project will see new equipment installed leading to more reliable and punctual services for passengers.

Over the next three weekends specialist railway engineers will install a brand new set of points, replace an old set of points and renew 300 yards of track. Minor follow-up work will take place in August.

This essential work will replace tired and worn out railway equipment and will improve the reliability of the railway infrastructure resulting in better journeys for all rail users in the area. Disruption during the work will be kept to a minimum, with heavy plant and machinery accessing the line from a rural location outside the village.

Jo Kaye, route director for Network Rail said: “These improvements will bring tremendous benefits for passengers, delivering a more reliable railway for many years to come. It will also reduce the need for intrusive maintenance and the track work will provide passengers with better journeys.”

The work is being done at weekends when demand for rail travel is at a lower level compared to weekdays, enabling Network Rail to carry out a programme of improvement work to build a bigger, better railway with minimal disruption to rail users.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
