MP Chris White welcomes lift-off on scheme to improve access at Warwick station

Warwick railway station is to be fitted with lifts and ramps to make it more accessible for all train passengers, Network Rail said today.

The £2.3m ‘Access for All’ improvement, part of Britain’s Railway Upgrade Plan, is set to be completed early in 2019.

 

Chris White, MP for Warwick and Leamington, said while visiting the station today: “This is an important improvement which will make train travel far easier for mobility-impaired passengers at Warwick station.

 

“It’s been a pleasure working with Network Rail on this. They’ve picked up this project well. And I look forward to pressing that ‘up and down’ button in 2019.”

 

The upgrade will see lifts installed on either side of the station giving step-free access on both of its platforms, which are served by Chiltern Railways trains going south to London Marylebone and north to Birmingham Moor Street.

 

Simon Clifford, Network Rail’s senior scheme sponsor for the Warwick station improvements, said: “We’re grateful to Chris White MP for pushing hard for this ‘Access for All’ scheme, which will benefit many train customers.”

 

Jenny Payne, customer service director for Chiltern Railways, said: “We are committed to making our customers’ journeys as comfortable as possible and the installation of lifts at Warwick Station is hugely important.  It allows more people to easily travel from the station and improves the experience for thousands of visitors to the historic town and its famous castle.”
