Manchester ‘Picnic-adilly’ gets rainbow treatment for Pride weekend

Manchester Piccadilly is gearing up for tens of thousands of passengers heading to the city’s annual Pride festival this weekend.
Workers from Network Rail have been painting the benches in the ‘Picnic-adilly’ area at the front of the station ready for the event which starts today (23 August) until Monday (26 August).
With the main festival site now very close to Manchester Piccadilly station at the Mayfield depot, extra staff will be on hand to help passengers over the weekend.
People are being advised to plan ahead and know the times of their trains as the station will get very busy.
Scott Green, Manchester Piccadilly station manager, said: “Pride is a huge event for Manchester and we’ll be helping passengers get to and from the event over the weekend. It’s great to show our support by painting our picnic area in the colours of the pride flag, as well our Network Rail employees taking part in the parade itself.
“As many of those coming to enjoy the festival will be arriving and leaving by train, we’re asking passengers to plan their journeys and take into account any engineering work which might be taking place on the railway.”
Track replacement work, as part of the Great North Rail Project, is taking place between Adlington and Cheadle Hulme in Cheshire which will mean longer journeys for passengers.
