Local residents invited to find out more about railway work near Liverpool South Parkway

Residents living near Liverpool South Parkway are invited to a drop-in event on Tuesday 11 July to find out more about work to renew two local railway bridges.

Work is due to start on 24 July and will involve the replacement of the Island Road bridge and the refurbishment of the Woolton Road bridge.

To minimise disruption to local residents and businesses, both bridges will be worked on the same time and are due to be completed in November 2017.

Sarah Padmore, scheme project manager for Network Rail said: “Island bridge had its last major repair 60 years ago and needs to be fully replaced to ensure it remains safe for decades to come.

“Along with the refurbishment of Woolton bridge, it forms part of our Railway Upgrade Plan and will help deliver a more reliable railway.

"I appreciate this essential work could be disruptive, so I’d like to thank local residents for their patience while we carry it out. We will take all possible measures to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.”

Local residents are invited to speak to Network Rail staff who will be on hand to answer questions and provide more detail on the work. The drop-in event will take place at the Royal British Legion, Haig House, Woolton Road, Liverpool, L19 5NQ on Tuesday 11 July from 3pm to 7pm.  

The Island Road Bridge will be closed at the junction of Harrington Road from 31 July 2017 to 17 November 2017 as agreed with Liverpool City Council. The carriageway and footpath will be closed for the duration of the works and a clearly signed diversion will be in place.
