LIVERPOOL LIME STREET IS BLOOMING MARVELLOUS

Region & Route:
Lime Street station has come into full bloom, hosting the artwork ‘Welcome Flower’ to celebrate the third Liverpool Biennial art exhibition.  ‘Welcome Flower’, by artist Choi Jeong Hwa, consists of eight fabric flowers, suspended from the ceiling of the station, which inflate at different intervals. It has been made for the International 04 part of the Biennial. Station manager, Roy Greenhalgh said: “Network Rail is delighted to host this special event for the first time. Lime Street station is an ideal gateway to the exhibition for visitors to the city.  “’Welcome Flower’ has been welcomed by everyone using the station, and we’re happy to be hosting such an interesting and colourful art installation, which is brightening up these dark autumn days for all the people using the station.” Choi Jeong Hwa makes large-scale inflatable fabric or fibreglass sculptures of flowers and fruit. His past pieces include Happy Together (2003) and Happy, Happy, Happy (2003). He also produced two new works for the Mori Art Museum’s opening show ‘Happiness.’

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
