KEEPING THE COMMUNITY UP TO SPEED IN THE TRENT VALLEY

Region & Route:

Network Rail is making sure that the community is kept up-to-date on the progress of the Trent Valley Four Tracking (TV4) project. Two information centres are being held in the area to keep residents informed about this vital part of the £8bn upgrade of the West Coast Main Line.

Communities are invited to come and discuss the works with Network Rail. Project managers and engineers will be on hand to answer any queries people may have about the project. Keith Riley, Senior Programme Manager for TV4 said: “The project is progressing well with much of the work to widen the railway itself and reconstruct bridges nearly complete. Work to install the additional two tracks has already started and we are making real progress. There is still a lot of work to do and these information centres are part of Network Rail's commitment to minimise disruption and keep the community informed of work planned.” Information will be available at the centres on the work planned for Easter when the railway is closed. Structures at Burton Road in Whittington, Huddlesford Lane and Broad Lane in Huddlesford, Fisherwick Road in Fisherwick, New Road, Old Road and Lichfield Road at Armitage with Handscacre all need modifying or replacing to accommodate the additional two tracks.

Notes to editors

Information centres are being held at: Armitage Village Hall, Shropshire Brook Road 20 March 5pm – 7pm, covering work in the Armitage with Handsacre area; Whittington Village Hall, Langton Crescent, Whittington. 21 March 5pm – 7pm, covering work in the Whittington, Fisherwick and Huddlesford areas. The TV4 project is part of the £8bn upgrade of the West Coast Main Line, and involves the doubling of the railway to four tracks along a 19km section between Armitage and Tamworth to remove a major bottleneck.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
