Network Rail is making sure that the community is kept up-to-date on the progress of the Trent Valley Four Tracking (TV4) project. Four information centres are being held in the area to keep residents informed about this vital part of the £8bn upgrade of the West Coast Main Line. Communities are invited to come and discuss the works with Network Rail. Project managers and engineers will be available to answer any queries people may have about the project. Keith Riley, Senior Programme Manager for TV4 said: “The Trent Valley Four Tracking project is progressing well, with the work to widen the railway on-track. This major upgrade of the West Coast Main Line will bring long-term benefits to the region. The information centres are part of Network Rail’s commitment to minimise disruption and keep the community informed of work planned.” Information will be available at the centres on the work planned for Christmas and the New Year when the railway is closed. Structures such as road bridges at Coton Lane, Upper Gungate and pedestrian accesses at Anders, Alders and Ludgate all need modifying or replacing to accommodate the additional two tracks. Further engineering work will then take place to install the additional two tracks themselves.

Notes to editors

The first information centre will be held at the Castle Hotel, Ladybank, Tamworth on Tuesday 22 August, 3pm – 7pm, covering work in the Tamworth area. The latest edition of the TV4 newsletter is available this month. Please contact the Network Rail Helpline on 08457 114141 for a copy. The TV4 project is part of the £8bn upgrade of the West Coast Main Line, and involves the doubling of the railway to four tracks along a 19km section between Armitage and Tamworth to remove a major bottleneck.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
