KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE AT LIME STREET

Region & Route:

Network Rail is the latest organisation to join the growing band dedicated to keeping children safe in Liverpool by making Lime Street station a Child Safe zone. The scheme is being championed in the city by City Central BID (Business Improvement District) working in partnership with Child Safe and the city centre retailers.

When you arrive at the station with your children, go to the reception office alongside platform one where you will be given a Child Safe wristband. You can then write your contact telephone number on the wristband before putting it on your child.

If at any time you become separated from your child while in the city you can ring the helpline number clearly displayed on the many Child Safe Zone window posters displayed in retailer’s windows and other locations. The helpline connects directly to the CCTV rooms of Liverpool City Council, St Johns Shopping Centre and Clayton Square Shopping Centre.

Network Rail’s station manager Roy Greenhalgh said: “Network Rail is proud to be part of this excellent scheme in Liverpool. With the opening of the Liverpool ONE shopping centre and a growing number of retailers, the Child Safe project is more important than ever, providing support to parents if ever they need it as soon as they arrive in Liverpool.”

Anne Mills, business development manager of the City Central BID, said “This is a very valuable service which makes Liverpool city centre an even safer and more pleasant place to shop. Thankfully, a child being separated from its parents is a really rare event but in case it happens this service can reunite them quickly and safely with their child”.

Parents can also get the wristbands from the 08 Place in Whitechapel, Wilkinsons in St Johns shopping centre and the Merseytravel information centre at Queen Square.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
