INVESTMENT IN THE RAILWAY ON HULL - SCARBOROUGH LINE

Region & Route:
Network Rail is investing £1.4m on improving the tracks between Hull and Bridlington at half term. The work will see the total renewal of all tracks, sleepers and ballast at Hutton Cranswick Station, Driffield South, Scorborough and Hutton Lane between Friday 19 October and Monday 29 October. More than 8,000 yards of track are being replaced with continuously welded rail. Neil Henry, area general manager for Network Rail, said: “This scheme will have long-term benefits for everyone who uses the line. Passengers will notice a smoother, quieter ride as jointed track is replaced with continuous lengths of rail, there will be less wear and tear on the trains and the new track.” Malcolm Brown, area director, Northern Rail said: “We will be operating a replacement bus service to keep passengers on the move while this work is taking place and look forward to resuming our normal train service on the new improved track.” The work is being carried out at half term in order to minimise the disruption to regular passengers. Passengers needing service information should contact National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
