IMPORTANT TRAFFIC INFORMATION – SHAW LANE CLOSURE

Region & Route:

Network Rail has started work at Shaw Lane, Hanch, Lichfield as part of the Trent Valley four tracking project (TV4) to double the number of tracks to four between Tamworth, Lichfield and Armitage with Handsacre. From 15 March 2006, Shaw Lane will be closed to traffic for up to nine months, while the bridge over the railway is replaced to accommodate the additional tracks. Senior Programme Manager for TV4, Keith Riley, said: “We have consulted with local people to ensure this essential work is carried out with minimal disruption in the area. Road traffic diversions will be put in place, and I’d recommend drivers plan their journeys and take care on the roads while this work is being carried out. “ Network Rail has consulted with Staffordshire County Council’s Highways Division and a comprehensive traffic management plan with sign posted diversionary routes will be put in place. Access to properties on Shaw Lane and Tuppenhurst Lane will be maintained at all times while haul roads will be used to keep as much construction traffic off the roads as possible.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
