Garston residents invited to find out more about railway bridge refurbishment

Residents, cyclists and motorists in Liverpool are being invited to find out about upcoming work to refurbish Church Road bridge in Garston.
As part of Network Rail’s Great North Rail Project, the essential renewal work will include the removal and replacement of the bridge deck which supports the railway above.
Residents are being invited to meet with Network Rail between 4pm and 7pm on Thursday 14 March at Woodcutters Social Club in Garston.
Joel Farrell, scheme project manager for Network Rail, said: “This essential refurbishment forms part of our Great North Rail Project and will ensure that Church Road bridge will remain safe and viable for years to come.
“To deliver our work safely, we will need to close the road beneath the bridge while the existing structure is dismantled and replaced. We are currently re-planning our work while we identify a suitable area to store materials, tools and equipment.
“We understand that temporarily closing Church Road will cause inconvenience to local people and we are keen to discuss this and provide more information about our work.”
The work was due to start this Friday (March 15) but has been postponed while further negotiations take place to find a suitable site to store materials and equipment for the project.
Network Rail will continue to keep local people informed about when the work will start.
