Essential upgrade means four day closure of level crossing near Bolton

As part of its Railway Upgrade Plan, Network Rail will be carrying out vital enhancement work to a level crossing near Bolton.
The Bromley Cross level crossing at the north end of Bromley Cross station will be closed for four days to fully upgrade it. New gates will be installed, level crossing decking will be replaced, and anti-trespass equipment will be enhanced.
The work will be carried out overnight between midnight and 5.45am – while trains aren’t running – over four nights between Tuesday, 22 and Friday, 25 November.
During the closure, a diversionary route will be in place for pedestrians wanting to cross the railway. The 0.3 mile route is via Chapeltown Road, Turton Road and Shady Lane.
Network Rail and Northern, which manages the station, will be providing a free pre-booked taxi service for passengers and local residents with reduced mobility.
Georgie Kinsey, Network Rail’s scheme project manager, said: “We appreciate that this work may be disruptive to some pedestrians and the local community and we really appreciate their patience and understanding as we carry out this essential activity as part of our Railway Upgrade Plan to deliver a bigger and better railway for passengers.
“Safety is at the front and centre of everything that we do and is the reason why we are carrying out this work at Bromley Cross.”
Matthew Worman, Stakeholder Manager for Northern’s Central region, added “It’s important we keep our railway well maintained and this upgrade work being carried out by Network Rail will ensure the crossing stays in the best working order for our customers. We’d encourage any of our customers with mobility issues to call 0800 138 5560 to book a complimentary taxi while the diversion is in place.”
A section of the station car park will also be closed in order to carry out the work. The closure will be in place from 5pm on Sunday, 20 November to 6pm on Friday, 25 November.
