ESSENTIAL BRIDGE WORK AT SKINNINGROVE THIS EASTER
- Region & Route:
£155,000 is being invested to improve a railway bridge at Carlin How, Skinningrove this Easter.
Network Rail is completing work to reinforce the concrete bridge on Wesley Terrace on behalf of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council. Once complete, it will mean that the bridge can safely accommodate the heavy vehicles which need to access the industrial estate for many years to come.
The work is being funded by the council and requires a full road closure over two long weekends, from 3pm Friday 2 April to 6am Tuesday 6 April and from 6pm Friday 9 April to 6am Monday 12 April.
Stephen Fletcher, route civils asset manager for Network Rail, said: “This work is essential to keep the bridge open for the heavy traffic which uses it. Because of the location of the bridge we have timed the works to create minimum disturbance for the businesses on the estate and will be working around the clock to complete the job as quickly as possible.
“We have been working closely with the council highways department about the timing of the works and arrangements for the diversion. A free minibus will be provided for pedestrians during the road closures.”
Cllr Mary Lanigan, cabinet member for highways, transportation and planning at Redcar & Cleveland Council added: “Our collaboration with Network Rail has allowed these essential works to be completed with the minimum possible disruption to the local community. Once complete, we will have a bridge that is fit for purpose for many years to come.”
Notes to editors

About Network Rail
We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.
Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
