DERBY COUNTY STARS GET THE NO MESSIN'! MESSAGE

Region & Route:

Two Derby County stars have given their backing to Network Rail’s No Messin’ Live! Summer campaign which hits Derby next week.

Stephen Pearson, who fired Derby into the Premiership at Wembley back in May and David Jones took time out from pre season training to meet Network Rail's Safety Education Team to learn about the company's No Messin' Live! event in Derby next week, which aims to raise awareness of railway safety amongst young people by giving them ideas about positive ways to spend their time, rather than play on the railway. David Jones said: "There's no excuse for messing around on train tracks. You may think you're clever and fast but a train is quicker and what's clever about getting yourself killed? No Messin' Live! is a great way of finding a better way to spend your time, whether it's trying out sports, like football or boxing, or skills such as mixing and having a laugh with your mates too." No Messin’ Live! will be taking place at Moorways Centre, Moor Lane, Allenton, Derby, DE24 9HY from 11am to 5pm on Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 August. The event is free for all young people aged between 9-16 years old.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
