Region & Route:
North West & Central

Passengers are being advised about emergency lift repairs at Old Roan station on Merseyside.

The lift doors had to be forced open after a power cut on Wednesday 16 June.

Now both door mechanisms must be replaced and specialist parts are on order.

It’s estimated the lifts will be able to reopen again by October.

Until then there will be no step-free access to the platforms.

David Bell, lifts and escalators support manager for Network Rail, said: “We’re sorry to passengers affected by damage to the lifts at Old Roan station and are working to reopen them as soon as possible.

“We know the repairs will inconvenience some passengers and I’d urge people to plan their journeys with Merseyrail while we carry out these urgent repairs get the lifts back into use for passengers.”

Passengers who need step-free access are advised to speak to station staff or to contact Merseyrail’s passenger assistance team on 0151 555 1111.

While the lifts are closed, tickets will be valid for passengers to travel via the nearest step-free stations (Aintree and Maghull) where onward travel can be arranged.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
