COMMUNITY INVITED TO INFORMATION CENTRES

Region & Route:

As part of its commitment to keep the community fully informed about the Trent Valley Four Tracking (TV4) project, Network Rail is holding two information centres in the area: Whittington Village Hall, Langton Crescent, Tuesday 21 March, 10am to 7.30pm; and Armitage Village Hall, Thursday 30 March, 10am to 8pm. Local people are invited to come and discuss the works with representatives from Network Rail. Project managers and engineers will be on hand to answer any queries people may have about the project. The TV4 project is part of the £8bn upgrade of the West Coast main line, and involves the doubling of the railway to four tracks along a 19km section between Armitage and Tamworth to remove a major bottleneck. Work in the Whittington areaLichfield area includes upgrading the bridge at Burton Road, removing the level crossing at Hademore and replacing it with a road bridge and replacing three rail bridges in the Huddlesford area. Also included in the works are extensions to existing embankments to allow the installation of the additional two tracks. Work in the Armitage area includes widening embankments and cuttings and installing new drainage. Work will also be undertaken on three bridges on Old Road, Lichfield Road and the New Road.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
