And they’re off… racegoers tipped for travel success ahead of Cheltenham Festival

Cheltenham Festival-goers travelling by train from Birmingham New Street are being given top tips to help them get off to a winning start.

The railway’s very own Paddy Power, station manager at New Street, is encouraging punters to:

• plan their journeys
• check before they travel, and
• allow extra time to catch their train.

Paddy's trio of tips will help racegoers stay ahead of the pack and avoid a fall at the first fence.

Thousands of people travel by train from Birmingham to the world famous meet, which takes place between Tuesday 12 and Friday 15 March.

Station manager, and top travel tipster, Paddy Power, said: “Travelling by train to Cheltenham is my top tip. Passengers can increase the odds of a successful journey by allowing more time to catch their train. That's tip number two.

"To avoid a long face, my third tip is always check before you travel at www.nationalrail.co.uk.” 

Network Rail stewards will be in the station to help passengers throughout the week.

To help make travel an unbridled success, the station team has been planning for weeks to be ready for the extra passengers who use the station. A queuing system (not including fences, hedges or water jumps) may be in use to avoid any jockeying for position.

With up to four services an hour direct to Cheltenham, punters shouldn’t have to wait ‘furlong’ for a train.
