£4 MILLION INVESTMENT IN COVENTRY STATION
- Region & Route:
Passengers using Coventry station are to benefit from a £4 million investment this summer. A series of projects will begin in July, and will include a new car park, a clean up of the two existing car parks, and the refurbishment of the station roof. The new four-deck multi-storey car park will provide commuters with an extra 300 spaces at the station. It will have the latest CCTV technology and lifts, and the two existing car parks will have new pay-on-foot machines and barriers, as well as CCTV. The existing 1960’s roof above the station footbridge and platforms 1 to 4 will be granted a new lease of life. Work began in May to strip back the existing roof felt and lay a new roof covering that will protect commuters from the elements for years to come. Peter Leppard, Area General Manager for the West Midlands said: “This is a considerable investment in Coventry station that will provide thousands of passengers with secure new car parking places, and make the station a better environment for all who use it.” Later this year Network Rail will also renew customer information screens with the latest digital technology that will improve the visibility of time table information for all passengers.

About Network Rail
We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.
Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
