£2.7 MILLION INVESTMENT POINTS THE WAY FOR SEAMER

Region & Route:
A £2.7 million investment by Network Rail at Seamer, near Scarborough will mean faster, smoother and more reliable train journeys for passengers using the Trans-Pennine and Wolds Coast routes. The project includes:
  • Renewal of a junction to the west of the station
  • Realignment of the track between the junction and the station
Dyan Crowther, Route Director, Network Rail said: “This is yet another example of Network Rail’s commitment to investing in the local rail network.  We will be replacing the existing jointed track with continuous welded rail which will provide a much smoother ride for passengers and reduce noise for our lineside neighbours.  “The work will also allow a long standing 30 mph speed restriction to be removed and the linespeed of 70 mph to be reinstated.” Unfortunately to carry out the work it will be necessary to close the railway line at Seamer from Sunday 13 until Saturday 19 February.  During these times bus replacement services will operate between: ·         Scarborough and Malton ·         Scarborough and Filey Passengers are advised to contact National Rail Enquiries on 08457 484950 for further information. It will also be necessary to close Long Lane foot crossing during these times.  Once the project is complete the crossing will be renewed. Dyan Crowther, continued: “We will be maximising the use of the rail closure by carrying out other work on this part of the route.  Our maintenance teams will be renewing cabling and other signalling equipment at Falsgrave, renewing sleepers at Scarborough station and carrying out repairs to the ‘listed’ overhead signal gantry.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
