£2.5 MILLION RAIL INVESTMENT BETWEEN STOKE AND DERBY

Region & Route:

Network Rail is investing £2.5 million in track improvements between Stoke-on-Trent and Derby. Track renewal work will take place at Upper Leigh near Uttoxeter and Eggington and Findern near Derby. The programme of work will take place from Friday 6 to Monday 16 January and will involve the temporary closure of several level crossings in the area. Dyan Crowther, Network Rail Route Director said: “This major investment between Stoke on Trent and Derby is part of our commitment to improve the railway and provide a better service for passengers. The project will involve the renewal of over four miles of rail as well as new ballast and sleepers. We have worked with train operating companies and the local authority to minimise disruption for passengers and motorists and would like to thank rail users and local residents for their patience while these works are carried out.” Over the two week project Central Trains services will be replaced by road replacement services between Stoke-on-Trent and Derby. Passengers are advised to check travel details in advance by contacting National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50 or www.nationalrail.co.uk.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
