£2.5 MILLION MAKEOVER FOR NOTTINGHAMSHIRE STATIONS

Region & Route:

Attenborough and Beeston stations are set to benefit from an investment of £2.5 million worth of essential platform improvement works. Network Rail is renewing platforms at both stations, raising and rebuilding platform walls, reducing the stepping distance between trains and platforms, as well as fitting new tactile strips near platform edges to help blind or partially sighted passengers. Attenborough station will receive £1.2 million of improvement works, starting on January 15 for eight weeks and re-opening on March 7. The station will be closed for the entire period of the works both weekends and weekdays, however with a replacement bus service operating from the station run by Central Trains. During the works the footbridge will also be closed but passengers will be able to use the nearby level crossing. Beeston station will receive £1.3 million of enhancement works starting on January 15 and running for a period of eight weeks. The station will only be closed on Saturdays and Sundays throughout and will remain open Monday to Friday, although passengers are advised to listen to train announcements. A replacement bus service will operate during station closures. Neil Henry, Network Rail’s East Midlands Area General Manager, commented: “ The station works are essential to our on-going improvement and maintenance programme. We have endeavoured to cause minimal disruption to time-tabled services by keeping Beeston Station open on weekdays, and have put in place comprehensive alternative travel arrangements where necessary”. Network Rail advise passengers wishing to use Attenborough station to contact National Rail enquiries on 08457 484950 prior to travel.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
